An American Volkssport Walking Club
The Happy Wanderers Walking Club is one of the most active
Volksmarching Clubs in the Southeastern United States
We sponsor the following in Florida
Special Events ● Wednesday Night Fun Walks ● Sunday YRE Walks
The Happy Wanderers Walking Club is based in Port Orange, Florida, near Daytona Beach. We offer fun, fitness, & friendship.
A volksmarch is an organized walk through a scenic and/or historic area over a predetermined course. the walk is non-competitive, and each participant travels at his/her own pace, making this an excellent activity for the entire family. Walks generally cover a distance of 10 kilometers (6.1 miles) over a circuitous route. A shorter route of 5 kilometers 3.1 miles) is available for the walker who thinks 10 km is a bit too much.
We have 11 Year Round walks in Florida. They are: Cocoa Beach, Daytona Beach, Deland, Flagler Beach, Mount Dora, New Smyrna Beach, Ormond Beach, Ponce Inlet, Port Orange, St. Augustine and Sanford. We also have a walk in Savannah Georgia for a total of 12 Year Round Events. The events encourage outdoor physical activity and exercise, and they are designed for people of all ages and levels of physical fitness. There is a fee of $3.00 for all participants in our events. The majority of our Wednesday walks are "Fun Walks" and the Club does not impose a fee, however occasionally a Special Event will take place on a Wednesday, in that case the fee is required. Anyone who finishes an event and meets the AVA requirements is eligible for IVV credit.
The primary categories for credit are Event Credit and Distance Credit. Event Credits are recorded for each walk completed and Distance Credits are recorded based on the number of kilometers walked in each event. At various milestones, the credits can be recorded with the American Volkssport Office for certification. Other programs (State Capitols, College Walks, etc.) are available for variety and fun. AVA walks are available throughout the United States and Canada.
